NBC shelves ‘Hawaii’

NBC has announced that it is pulling “Hawaii“ — its “other side of paradise” cop drama series — from its primetime lineup during November sweeps. According to trade magazine Variety, the Wednesday night slot will go to Heather Locklear’s “LAX,” which has struggled to find an audience on Monday nights. Contrary to an early report in TV Guide, however, “Hawaii” has not been cancelled. The show “will continue in production in Hawaii and will return at a later date with new episodes,” according to an NBC press release. DISCUSS

Elderly flagged for flu shots

Hawaii’s highest priority for the distribution of publicly-held vaccine are the frail elderly confined to long-term care facilities, the state State Department of Health (DOH) announced today. “They are our most vulnerable to complications from the flu and should be protected,” said director Dr. Chiyome Fukino. The state had met with local health care providers, pharmacies, and federal agencies to discuss a strategy for allocating Hawaii’s limited supply of publicly-held vaccine. The vaccine supply was originally designated for public clinics.
Isle scientists head to Mount St. Helens

In the last few days, two scientists stationed at the Hawaiian Volcano Observatory (HVO) have packed their bags and headed for Mount St. Helens. Geologist Rick Hoblitt is helping to install a radar system that will allow scientists to track ash plumes from Mount St. Helens at night or during rotten weather, when there is no visibility.

Aloha, Delta expand service to Maui
Oct 5th
Aloha Airlines today announced year-round, daily service between San Diego (SAN) and Maui, and also added the only direct link between San Diego and Reno/Tahoe International Airport (RNO). Meanwhile, Delta Airlines recently announced a new route between Maui and Salt Lake City International Airport (SLC). Aloha’s new service will begin Dec. 15; Delta’s in May of next year.
