Rainbow Wahine top Toppers, advance

The second-ranked UH Rainbow Wahine volleyball team beat the Lady Toppers of Western Kentucky tonight 30-18, 30-25, 30-21, advancing to the second round of the NCAA tournament to play the Washington Huskies.

The Lady Toppers gave the Wahine a scare, racking up a 6-1 lead out of the gate in the first game. Hawaii soon took the lead 7-6, however, with a block by Kim Willoughby and Lauren Duggins bringing the win. The Wahine led most of the second game, but the Lady Toppers never fell behind more than five points. Hawaii led all the way through game three.

The Wahine move forward 31-1 for the season. The Lady Toppers go home with a 33-5 record.
